Drama

Ascension’s Musical Theater group was formed to provide a creative outlet for students in the performing arts.  In addition to honing their acting, singing, and dancing skills, students improve communication skills and increase their self-confidence.  Being part of a school production also encourages collaboration and creative problem solving among the performers.

In addition to on-stage performance, students may also learn about backstage responsibilities.  These include: making and handling props, creating scenery, and learning about sound and lighting cues.

Ascension’s Musical Theater group is open to students in grade five through eight.  Each year, a different production is chosen and students audition for placement in the show.  The cast rehearses several hours each week for approximately four months, and perform two shows at the culmination of rehearsals.  Both school and community members attend the widely anticipated, yearly shows.
