Ascension Catholic School
Hershey Track & Field Meet

Updated April 26, 2004

Congratulations to all the participants of the Hershey Track Meet on Saturday, April 24th at Eau Gallie High School!

Some middle school students preformed especially well in their heats.

Erica's win in the 800m by a wide lead over the HTA challenge set the tone for a dominant performance by Ascension at the meet. Casey's second place finish in the 800m kept up the ACS Challenge. The first place wins by Erica M. and Jason D. in the 200m sprints; the 1-2 finish by Ascension in the boys100m dash and the first place finish in the boys 4 x 100 m relay kept the Ascension Eagles soaring higher in their heats than the rest of the teams in the 13-14 year old category.

Final results will be in in May - check back in later for more information.

The Hershey Track Meet is a City of Melbourne sponsored event for area elementary schools. Children compete against children from other schools in a variety of events. The top two finishers in each event continue on to the district level. Ascension has always sent quite a few athletes to the district meet, as wall as, to the state meet.

The age groups are as follows: 7-8 year olds, 9-10 year olds, 11-12 year olds and 13-14 year olds. Your child's age on December 31, 2004 determines the age bracket he/she will compete in.

The track events are the:
  • 50 yard run
  • 100 yard run
  • 200 yard run
  • 400 yard run
  • 800 yard run
  • 1 mile run
  • 4 x 100 yard relay
The field events are:
  • Standing Long Jump
  • Softball Throw
The events are separated into girls and boys divisions. each school may enter up to 5 children per age group, per event. However, not all age groups compete in all events.
