Ascension Web Site

Updated September 21, 2007 Anita Brady

An organizational meeting will be held, Thursday, September 27 in the computer lab. Please come if you are interested in helping with the Ascension School Web Site. If you are unable to come but would like to help, please contact: Anita Brady.

Web Site History

The ACS Web Site was begun during the 1996-97 school year. During the first year, we were able to obtain internet access for every computer in the lab, server space for the school site, and email addresses for each teacher as well as for the school administration. We were able to convert most of ACS' information from paper to electronic medium. During the summer of 97, the site underwent a complete redesign, seeking to make the site easier to navigate and faster to load.

In its second year (1997-98), the web committee was created. Chaired by Kris Densler, the committee included Ms. Anita Brady as staff representative and nearly 30 volunteer parents and students who worked throughout the school year to maintain the site information current. During this year processes were developed to train volunteers and to move information from verbal/printed sources to the server.

When the ACS site was designed, one of the designer's main goals was to make it one of the best school sites available. "Best" meant maximum usefulness to the school community. The site is not full of flashy graphics, state-of-the-art thingamajigs, and complex interfaces for rarely used functionality. Instead, the site is full of relevant and timely information, and offers straightforward and easy to use communication tools to help integrate the teacher, parent, student, and administration groups as a single community. Our goal is to be useful: have the information you need when you need it, in a way that you can easily access it.

The web site committee is formed each year at the beginning of the year. We try to recruit volunteers at the first Home and School meeting each year and hold our organizational meeting shortly afterwards. Many volunteers return year after year, which helps us maintain pages current in the period between the start of the year and our organizational meeting.
