Ascension Food Pantry

Updated Narch 18, 2007 by M. Hueckel

Wednesday School Mass
Ascension students are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to Mass each Wednesday. The food is collected during the offertory at Mass. All of the donated items are taken to Ascension Social Concerns where they are distributed to those in need.

Social Concerns appreciates all donations and has a particular need for the following items.
  • Canned Foods: Beans-all kinds, Fruit, Soup, Canned Tomatoes, Vegetables-all kinds, Ravioli, Sauce, Spaghettio’s, Stew, Tuna
  • Other: Beans, Cereal, Juice, Mac & Cheese, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Rice, Powdered Milk
  • Non-Food Items: Ziploc bags, Baby diapers, baby wipes

Travelers: If you are a frequent traveler and stay in hotels, we would appreciate any unused toiletries and coffee packets the hotels put in your room each day. Many homeless depend on these samples to carry with them.

Thank you, parents, for helping your children participate in this important ministry!

From the Ascension Bulletin (2/07)
What is Social Concerns?
Social Concerns was originally formed in 1985 to help needy Ascension parisioners with food or financial assistance. Due to the generosity of various individuals and church ministries, we were also able to reach out and help many of our poor and needy neighbors in the Melbourne area.[...]
The Food Pantry is located on Aurora Road next to the Ascension Thrift Store.
With considerable aid from the Thrift Store and private donations, we are able to provide food, clothing and other assistance to disabled, poor needy families and individuals[...]
We hope you never need our help, but we do need yours. Your donations of food, time, money, or items to the Ascension Thrift Store today could have a profound effect on someone'e life tomorrow.
