Voluntary PreKindergarten

We are very pleased to announce that Ascension Catholic School has been approved as a VPK Provider for the 2008-2009 school year!  Our signs will go up as soon as possible.  VPK is a State of Florida initiative that pays public and private schools to educate 4 year olds, thus providing a “free” Pre-K experience to all qualified Florida residents.  The program is NOT based on financial need.

For those who have rising four-year-olds, or friends and neighbors, who may be interested in VPK, we are providing the basic details.  For more information on the “free Pre-K Program,” VPK, please refer to the Brevard County Early Learning Coalition website at www.elcbrevard.org and see our office staff, for answers to frequently asked questions.

The program works like this:

            Parents of children, who will be four years old by September 1, 2008, must go to a local site of the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) of Brevard County, on announced registration days, fill out an application and receive paperwork, which contains a confirmation number.  There is no option to this procedure.  Once approved on-site, by the ELC, the paperwork can be used at any Brevard County approved VPK Provider facility.  Without approved paperwork and the required confirmation number, Ascension cannot admit students into the free VPK Program.  For those who are approved by the ELC for the VPK Program and have pre-registered, your registration fee will be refunded, once we receive the paperwork.  As you look into the details of the program, please be sure to notice the attendance requirements.  They are VERY strict about attendance- if it is free, your child MUST attend, unless the absence is one that qualifies as excused.  Failure to meet attendance requirements will result in loss of benefits, and could result in our facility losing certification.  If you intend to enroll in the 4-year old program on a more casual basis, we recommend that you do not enroll in VPK.
