STAR Reading

The STAR reading test is a short computerized test that students in grades 2 through 8 take test three times a year. The test is used to determine the appropriate level of challenge for each child and instantly place new students. By correctly determining the student's zone of proximal development, a student is assured of reading at a level that will challenge but not frustrate and provide the most growth for that individual child.

The test uses vocabulary in context to assess a student's placement. The test is adaptive so that as a student answers correctly or incorrectly, the level is adjusted. This also assures that younger or less able readers are not frustrated with many questions they can't answer. Additionally, the test utilizes the latest national normative data to assure a good result.
