is available for children suffering any kind of parental loss. Small
groups (based on age) are held weekly during school hours.

Students testing 95% and above on the ITBS are helped to join this program
which offers early SAT testing, and information regarding special summer
programs, a newsletter etc. Students qualifying for the program are
helped in preparing for the SAT. Fifth graders scoring 90% in CTBS or
ITBS are also invited to join the Duke program and can take part in
many exciting, educational opportunities.
- Vision and hearing screening, ADD/ADHD and CAPD screening is done
through guidance, in addition, gifted screening and learning disability
screening and coordination of both service plans and 504 plans of accommodation
are coordinated through the guidance office.
- Chess club is also coordinated through guidance with the help of Mrs.
Ruiz and community volunteer Mr. Ripley. Learning chess has been shown
to increase student abilities in pattern recognition, divergent thinking
and logical reasoning skills.
In addition, the counselor works with individual students, parents
and other faculty members in seeking solutions to learning or other
problems that affect their self esteem and school involvement. The
counselor is also available to individual students for counseling
through self, parent or teacher referral.
For issues or concerns regarding your children outside of the school
setting, you can reach Dr. Wilborn through her private practice
