Ascension Prekindergarten

Welcome to Ms. Mieczkowski's Class!

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Ascension Catholic School’s VPK class.  This is a very exciting time for your child.  For some it is a huge transition because it may be their first learning experience away from home.   We want this to be a great journey for you and your child.

To help make your child’s day run smoothly, we have addressed the following:

Communication:  This is one of the keys to your child (and you) having a wonderful and successful year.  Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.

Folder:  leave a note in your child’s folder

Morning Drop Off:  School starts at 8:00.  It is best if your child is in class by 7:55.  This gives them time to settle in before announcements start.  In the morning, if you walk your child into the classroom, please encourage them to hang up their backpack, take out their folder, and begin their day.

Curriculum:  We are currently using Kaplan’s Beyond Centers and Circle Time.  Beyond Centers and Circle Time is a play-based curriculum designed to provide a loving, creative, playful and stimulating experiences for your child. 

Religion:  There will be daily instruction in religion.  We currently use the curriculum, I Am Special, by Joan Ensor Plum.

Church:  All students in Pre-K4 will attend mass on Wednesdays. We will let you know when we plan to start. Please remind your child of appropriate behavior while in church.

Sound Table:  Beginning in September, we will start working on a letter of the week.  Your child is encouraged to bring in something from home that starts with that sound to share with the class.  All items brought in will be returned on Friday.

Show –n- Tell:  Every day we will have show and tell time in the classroom, beginning in September.  A schedule will come home the end of August letting you know your child’s
day.

Treasure Box:  Every Friday your child will have the opportunity to take something home from the treasure box, to reward them for their efforts all week.  The only way they will not receive a treasure is if they are on the red light. (see behavior plan)

Snacks:  Please send in a snack/drink daily for snack time.  Please try to send in a healthy snack.  Please do not send in any candy.  Water is encouraged.

Uniform:  All Pre-K4 students are to wear the assigned P.E. uniform.  Please have your child wear sneakers or closed toe shoes.

Class Parties: In advance, I will post on the corkboard outside of my room a list of items needed for the party.  All items are on a voluntary basis.

Recess:  Everyday there is recess outside for 30 minutes, weather permitting.  Your child will have the opportunity for free play, painting, sand, coloring, waterplay, or a teacher directed activity.

Change of clothes:  Your child is going to get MESSY this year.  WE will be doing a lot of painting, water play, and mud play.  Please send in an extra uniform in case there is a toileting accident or if your child needs to change their clothes.  We also ask that all clothing is labeled and in a clear gallon ziplock bag.

Birthdays: Birthdays are a big event for pre-k!!!   Please feel free to send in or bring in snacks for the whole class.  We will celebrate your child’s special day at snack time.  We currently have 18 students.  Should you desire to host a birthday party for your child at your home, we request birthday invitations to be passed out to the entire class, all boys only or all girls only.  If you are inviting only a few classmates, please mail them.  It is done this way to prevent any hurt feelings.

Dismissal: All children will be dismissed from the car loop between 11:45 and 12:00.  At this time you will be asked to sign your child out.  If you have not arrived by 12:00, your child will be taken to extended care, and you will be charged accordingly.  Please notify me in writing if there is a change in your child’s pick up.

Volunteering:  We LOVE having parents in the class to help out.  If at anytime you would like to come in please let me know.  We just ask that you hold off until the end of September.  This will give your child and other children a chance to adjust to their new routines.

Lastly, we would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to get to know and teach your child.  We look forward to helping your child begin their journey as lifelong learners, and to grow in faith.
