ITBS Achievement Scores—Iowa Tests of Basic Skills
A common measure of student achievement is reflected in standardized testing. Ascension students complete the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) each year, and consistently achieve outstanding scores when compared to other students across the nation. For each student, as well as each grade level, scores are reported by national percentile. For example, a score of 96 indicates achievement higher than 96 percent of students in the nation taking the test. The chart below displays the results of the test taken in the fall of 2010.
Grade Level Equivalents— The results of the ITBS are also expressed in terms of grade level equivalents; that is, the grade at which an average student in our nation achieves the same as the average Ascension student. These results are shown below. For example, Ascension eighth grade students achieved a grade level equivalent in mathematics of 11.7. That means our mathematics scores are comparable to the national average student in the 7th month of grade 11. Our eighth grade core total average exceeded that of the average high school graduate (13+).
